The sea was calm, the sun was shining, and the wind was blowing into the right direction, creating almost ideal conditions for sailing. At times like this, one would just love to relax and enjoy the ride.
A Marine ship was making its way through the seas of East blue, and although the weather conditions were great, there was a strange tension on the ship. The Marines were running up and down, and they all appeared to be extremely busy, like they were preparing for something big.
They were about to sail into a special part of East blue, that is cowered with constant thick mist, called the Grey area. Sailing inside the Grey area was extremely dangerous, because of low visibility and dangerous sea currents, and marines knew that very well. They have lost a large number of ships inside this area, and there were many ghost stories about this place, which explains the strange tension on the ship. Since this area was dangerous, most of the ships avoided it, but because of the thick mist, this was also a well known hideout for pirates. The Mist pirates were especially famous around here, as they were known to attack other ships from the mist, and then return inside the mist just as fast.
There was an old man standing in the center of the ship, and he was the only person that was not moving around, and appeared to be calm. He was about average size, with a long white beard that almost touched the ground, and was dressed in a marine uniform, with marine coat hanging on his shoulders. He was standing completely still, and stared into the distance, with a worried look on his face. This was captain White, and he was the commanding officer on this ship. He was supposed to be a very good fighter in his younger days, but because of his old age, he did not took part in battles any more. Despite that, he had a high reputation among the Marines, because of his wisdom and experience, and was one of the few Marine captains, that did not hesitate to sail inside the Grey area.
The ship finally arrived at the Grey area. Thick mist was blocking the sun, making this place much darker, forcing the marines to turn on the lights on the ship.
As they were sailing, they suddenly spotted a bright light in the distance. Captain White immediately ordered the Marines to stop the ship, turn off all the lights, and ordered everyone to stay completely silent from now on. The light in the distance was most likely a pirate ship, and something in his gut was telling him, that those were the Mist pirates. He stood there for a few minutes, observing the pirate ship, hoping that they did not notice them. Since pirates did not appear to be running away, he turned to a Marine closest to him, and gave him an order:
»Find a recruit named Leo Kuei, and drag him into my quarters. Knowing him, you will probably find him in the training room.«
The marine wondered, why did the captain want to talk to a recruit at such time, but he did not dare to question his orderes, and went searching for him. When he opened the door of the training room, he noticed, there were at least ten marines lying on the ground. They were all either knocked out, or unable to move. One man was standing in the middle of the room, and he appeared to be completely unharmed. He was holding a pair of steel tonfas in his hands, and looked very scarry. Upon opening the door, Leo turned to Marine, and said with a serious voice:
»Perfect timing. I just ran out of sparring partners. By all means, please enter.«
Seeing Leo like this, scared the Marine, but he somehow managed to deliver the captains orders to him. Leo said something, about how much he hated orderes, and went to see the captain. When he is ordered something, it always puts him in a bad mood, but he decided to tolerate it for now. He opened the door to captain White's quarters without knocking first, and greeted him in a very rude way:
»So, what do you want from me old man.«
Captain White was obviously angered by his attitude, and started to yeal at him:
»You spoiled little brat, just because you have some fighting skills, you think you can do whatever you want!!! Any other Marine would be fired long ago, if he would be behaveing like you!«
But he somehow managed to calm down, as this mission was more important to him, then scolding Leo.
»Anyway, the good news is, we managed to find the Mist pirates inside the Grey area. But the bad news is, that those bastards, know this area well, and they have the fastest ship I have ever seen. If we just charge at them, they will see us, and escape. I personally tried to catch them many times before, but they evaded me every single time. This is where you come in.«
Saying that, Captain White finally seemed to get Leo's full attention. He leaned back on his chair, and continued with his explanation:
»I want you to take a small boat, sneak on their ship, and somehow slow them down, untill we catch them. How you do it, is up to you. I will give you 20 minutes of head start, then I will sail after you.«
Leo seemed to be satisfied that he finally got an opurtunity to kick some but, and confidently replyed:
»20 minutes is more the enough. By the time you guys get there, I will alredy take over the ship.«
Although Captain White liked Leos bravery and spirit, his attitude and pride can realy get the better of him:
»You cocky little brat, just because you have some talent, do not think you are invincible!!! And do not think you are going on a mission as dangerous as this alone!«
Hearing, that this was not a solo mission, made Leo very unhappy. He instantly complained with a threatening voice:
»Any Marine that will acompany me, will just slow me down. I am better off alone.«
Captain once again leaned back on his chair, this time with a faint smile on his face:
»Not this time. This time I have personally requested a transfer of some very talanted Marines, that will with no doubt, prove to be more then useful.«
Leo realised, that no mather what he said, captain will never change his mind, so he left his quarters without saying anything else. He might not show it, but Captain White was one of the few people he actually cared about, and whose opinion he respected.
Captain White stayed in his quarters, and although Leo angered him before, he appeared to be very happy. Although Leo had one hell of an attitude, he was aware of his potential, and expected much from him. He had a strong feeling, that this time, this mission will succed.
Suddenly someone knocked on the captains door, and based on his reaction, he was alredy expecting it...
